Pidyon Taanis
The Gemara teaches that the merit of a Taanis (fast day) is primarily attained through giving charity on that day. Aside from the scheduled fast-days of the year, fasting for personal reasons is sometimes required (such as a Taanis Chalom, dropping Teffilin ch"v, Yahrzheit l"o, and other reasons)
One may be advised to"redeem" the Taanis through Tzedakah, namely the food they would have eaten, especially when they are not able to fast. Supporting Torah Study as well as deserving families is a meritorious way to give charity. A suggested amount may be found below.
