Welcome to Kollel Choshen Mishpot Nationwide

Kollel Choshen Mishpot - The Center of Jewish Business Law, serves as a center for the in-depth study of Choshen Mishpot. There are many Jewish laws that govern finance, torts, and legal procedures and it is best to learn all of them under the guidance of experienced educators.

At the suggestion of Harav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, Shlit"a, a branch was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, housed in a dedicated state of the art facility on Taylor Rd. Recently a second branch opened in Lakewood NJ with 16 advanced Yungeleit, and plans are underway for further projects.

With an eye to the future, a primary objective of the Kollel is to assist Shuls and Kollelim in founding a "Kollel Choshen Mishpot Chaburah" at their location for the in-depth study of Business Halacha, by providing a detailed curriculum and online resources. Join the initiative by opening a Chaburah in your city!

WHAT IS CHOSHEN MISHPOT?

Choshen Mishpot refers to the laws of halachic jurisprudence. It is a complex body of halacha and only a few are proficient with its tenets. Its application spans an entire gamut of business and commerce; hence familiarity with it is important for those working in these industries. In fact, Jewish Business law has had a direct impact on contemporary jurisprudence, and forms the basis of much of today's legal system as we know it.

THE PERSONAL EDGE

By: Rabbi Eliezer Cohen

Founder & Dean

Dear Friend,

Our Torah teaches; "V'asisa Hayashar V'hatov - you shall do that which is proper and good". The goal of all Torah study, and business halacha is no exception, is that ultimately we create a peaceful society. Contrary to common perception that financial success can only be attained through intense competition, Jewish Business Law teaches to exercise mutually beneficial business practice. Due to its inherent holiness, it serves simultaneously both as a body of law and ethics. Hence, the all-too-familiar adage "business is business" has no place in halacha. Honesty, kindness, and friendship are qualities to cultivate in all areas of life.
